HIGH POINT, N.C. – NC State scored two early goals and
dominated throughout in a 3-0 victory over Campbell on Thursday evening in the
first day of the HPU Invitational hosted by High Point University at Vert
Stadium.
The Wolfpack wasted little time taking control of the match.
Junior Lindsay Vera buried the first shot of the game into the left corner for
a 1-0 lead. Vera’s team-leading fourth goal of the season came in the third
minute of play off a feed from Chantalle Dugas.
In the 24th minute, sophomore Katie Ruiz’s corner
kick led to Kendall Irby’s first collegiate goal to make it 2-0 in favor of the
Pack. Irby found the loose ball in the 6-yard box and deposited it into the
back of the net at the 23:09 mark of the first half.
Tami Krzeszewski left little doubt to the outcome of this
one with her first goal of the year midway through the second half. Briana
Cunningham’s touch pass off a free kick found the foot of Krzeszewski, who
fired her shot into the top corner in the 77th minute.
NC State out shot the Camels by a 22-1 margin and also led
in corner kicks, 11-2.
The Pack will take on the host Panthers on
Saturday at 3:30 pm in the final day of the HPU Invitational.
