COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior midfielder Kelly Rozumalski
scored the game-winning goal to lead Maryland to a 2-0 win over NC State Sunday
afternoon at Ludwig Field.
In the 25th minute, Rozumalski took a pass from midfielder
Caitlin McDowell and drilled a shot into the upper-left corner from 23 yards
out to give Maryland a 1-0 lead. Sophomore defender Brittany Cummins also
earned an assist on the goal.
Goalkeeper Rachel Barnette made a diving save for NC State
to keep the Wolfpack in the match in the 37th minute as she denied
Emily Maynard’s shot attempt.
However, Kimmy Bunting scored her first goal of the season
in the 43rd minute to make it a 2-0 game before halftime. Emily Maynard picked
up the assist on the play by sending a free kick from 35 yards away into the
Wolfpack six-yard box, where Bunting was able to glance the ball of her head
into the net.
Briana Cunningham mustered the best scoring opportunities
for NC State in the match as she got off three shots on net, but it was to no
avail as Terps keeper Mary Casey came up with the save each time.
The second half saw the Terps hold off the Wolfpack and
limit them to just two shots on goal in the final 45 minutes.
Casey earned her first career shutout with three saves. NC
State sophomore Sydney Little relieved Barnette in the second half and made
five stops.
The victory gives the Terps a final record of
6-9-3 overall, 1-8-1 in the ACC. The Wolfpack finishes its season with a 6-10-3
record, 0-9-1 in the conference.
