INDIANAPOLIS - The NC State women's golf team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Central Regional Championship on Monday. The Wolfpack’s invitation marks the seventh-straight trip to the championship in eight seasons since the program was reinstated in 2000.
NC State is the 13th seed among a field of 21 teams that will compete in the Central Regional, which takes place Thursday, May 8 through Saturday, May 10 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin. Texas will serve as host for the event.
The Wolfpack is ranked No. 38 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin performance index, while Golfstat has the Pack No. 39.
NC State has finished 14th on three occasions since first being selected for NCAA play back in 2002. Individually, Colby Cobb had the most success for the Wolfpack finishing tied for 13th back in 2002 in Baton Rouge, La.
This is the first time NC State will compete in the Central Regional. The prior six trips were all played in the East Regional.
The three-day event houses a 54-hole tournament featuring a total of 63 teams and nine individuals. Of the 324 total participants, 126 will advance to the championship. Eight teams, plus the top two individuals will advance to the 27th Annual NCAA Championship May 20-23 at the University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque.
