GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State's Brittany Strachan and Marissa Kastanek were selected to the 2009-10 ACC Women’s Basketball All-Academic Team.
Strachan, a junior from Kernersville, N.C., is a computer science major, while Kastanek, the Lincoln, Neb., native, is a psychology major at NC State.
Strachan leads the ACC in three-point shooting with a 42.4 percent (39-for-92) shooting clip. She is the top scoring reserve for the Wolfpack this season, averaging 7.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Kastanek was named the ACC's Freshman of the Year last week. She averages 10.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 32 starts.
Both played key roles in leading the sixth-seeded Wolfpack into the ACC Championship game this past Sunday. By winning three games in three days, NC State became just the second ACC team to make the finals as a No. 6 seed or lower. NC State (20-13) now awaits word of a likely NCAA Tournament bid next Monday night.
Additionally, Duke's Jasmine Thomas has been named the recipient of the second-annual Kay Yow Award as the ACC Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. 2009-10 All-ACC Academic Women’s Basketball Team Name, Class, Pos., School, Major Ayla Brown, Sr., F, Boston College, Communications Brittanny Johnson, Gr., G, Boston College, Administrative Studies Keturah Jackson, Gr., G/F, Duke, Business Jasmine Thomas, Jr., G, Duke, Sociology Allison Vernerey, Fr., C, Duke, Undeclared Bridgette Mitchell, Sr., F/G, Duke, Sociology Christian Hunnicutt, Jr., G, Florida State, Communication Science and Disorder Deja Foster, Jr., G, Georgia Tech, Management Lori Bjork, Gr., G, Maryland, Kinesiological Sciences Tianna Hawkins, Fr., F, Maryland, Undeclared Diandra Tchatchouang, Fr., F, Maryland, Undeclared Morgan Stroman, Fr., F, Miami, Sports Administration Marissa Kastanek, Fr., G, NC State, Psychology Brittany Strachan, Sr., F, NC State, Computer Science Alyssa Fenyn, Fr., G, Virginia Tech, University Studies Lindsay Biggs, Sr., G Virginia Tech, Sociology
