Gary Hahn - Voice of the Wolfpack

Gary Hahn, is entering his 19^th season this fall as the radio voice of NC State football and basketball on the Wolfpack Sports Network.

Before coming to NC State, Hahn worked on statewide radio sports networks for the University of Louisville, Ohio State University, and the University of Alabama. He was part of the broadcast team when Louisville won the NCAA Basketball Championship in 1980. He also called the 1985 Rose Bowl for the Ohio State Radio Network. In addition, Hahn described the 1986 NIT Championship that was won by the Buckeyes.

From 1981-83 Hahn was a sports anchor/reporter for the NBC Radio Network in New York City. He began his broadcasting career in 1970 while still a college student and once worked with comic David Letterman when the two were at WLWI-TV in Indianapolis in 1974-75.

Hahn also served as the radio play-by-play voice of the Carolina Cobras of the Arena Football League and the Raleigh-Durham Skyhawks of the World League of American Football. He is a 1974 graduate of Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana, with a BS degree in Radio-TV.

          Tony Haynes - Sideline Reporter, Color Analyst

A 1984 graduate of NC State, Haynes joined the Wolfpack Sports Network in 1998. His list of duties include color analyst for men’s basketball, sideline reporter for the football broadcasts, and host for the TV and radio coaches shows for both football and men’s basketball.

Haynes also does play-by-play for selected NC State baseball broadcasts, along with serving as host of “Inside Wolfpack Sports with Lee Fowler,” the Wolfpack’s weekly spring and summer TV show. He also contributes columns and stories to Gopack.com on a regular basis.

After serving as sports director for NC State’s student station, WKNC 88.1 FM from 1982-84, the Lynchburg, Virginia native was a disc jockey and sports reporter for WKIX 850 in Raleigh between 1984-89. He joined the Duke Radio Network as a sideline reporter for football in 1987 and later became a member of the Duke basketball radio team in 1993. Haynes also worked as a sports anchor/reporter for the North Carolina News Network from 1989-2000.

          Johnny Evans - Football Color Analyst

Color analyst Johnny Evans begins his 12th season in the broadcast booth in 2008.  His first game in the  booth was a memorable overtime victory against the Syracuse Orangemen in the Carrier Dome in 1997.  Before entering the booth Evans spent 11 years as the sideline reporter for the Wolfpack Sports Network.

Evans played under Coach Lou Holtz at NC State from 1974–1977, where he was a quarterback and punter.  Evans still ranks as NC State’s top punter both season and career statistics.  He was the Peach Bowl Outstanding Player in 1977 and was named the Fellowship of Christian Athlete's College Athlete of the Year in 1978.  The Cleveland Browns picked Evans in the Second Round of the 1978 draft and he played three seasons as the Brown's quarterback and punter.  Evans went on to play three more years in the Canadian Football League. 

Evans was born and raised in High Point, North Carolina.  He received a BA in Speech Communications from NC State University.  Evans and his wife Beth have four children, quadruplets; Daniel, Andrew, Katherine, and Quinn.  Both Daniel and Andrew are members of the NC State football team.  Evans is the Eastern NC Director for Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

          Don Shea - TV Show Host

Don Shea is a familiar face to many Wolfpack fans.  He is the co-host of the “Sidney Lowe and Tom O’Brien TV Shows” an he also co-hosts “Inside Wolfpack Sports with Lee Fowler.”  You may also see him around Fan Zone before football games conducting radio interviews for the Wolfpack Sports Network. 

Shea began his work with NC State when Jim Valvano asked him to be the director of James Thomas Valvano Enterprises (JTV) in 1984.  Shea hosted the “Jim Valvano Coaches Show” and also hosted the “Dick Sheridan Coaches Show.”  Shea has been a key component on all the coaches shows since 1984, a career that spans 25 years.

Before arriving at NC State, Shea spent 17 years as the Sports Director at WTVD Channel 11 in Durham.  He is on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame and the National Football League College Hall of Fame.

Shea also assists with many charities around the community.  He serves on the advisory board for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the March of Dimes.  Shea serves as the Co-Chairman for the Jim Valvano Kids Klassic and is on the Board of Directors for the Duke Children’s Classic.

Shea has two sons Kyle and Derek.

     David Modlin - Producer/Engineer

David Modlin is the producer/engineer for the Wolfpack Sports Network.  Modlin’s duties include preparing broadcast television and radio formats and handles all producing and engineering aspects for the game broadcasts and coaches radio shows.  

Modlin is a product of the public schools of Gates County, North Carolina and got his first experience in radio at WKJX FM, Elizabeth City shortly after his 16^th birthday.

His first work for Capitol Broadcasting Co., Inc was in 1995 as the engineer for the Duke Radio Network, a job taught to him by none other than current NCSU color analyst, Tony Haynes.  Not letting that stop him, he transferred to the Wolfpack Sports Network the next year and has been a part of bowl games, ACC and NCAA tournaments.

Howard Baum - Statistician

Howard Baum is the statistician for the Wolfpack Sports Network.  Baum began keeping statistics for NC State football games in 1967.  In 1979, Baum expanded his role to also include statistics at NC State basketball games.

Baum was born in Cleveland, Ohio.  He attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance and Commerce and graduated in 1956. 

Baum is the owner of B&B Bowling Lanes in Fayetteville.  He serves on multiple bowling association boards including the Executive Director of the Bowling Proprietors Association of the Carolinas/Georgia.  Baum is a member of the Fayetteville Bowling Association Hall of Fame and also the International Bowling Hall of Fame in St. Louis.

Baum and his wife Lynda have 2 children, Marcia and Nancy, both graduates of NC State University. 

Francis Combs - Football Spotter

Francis Combs is the spotter for the Wolfpack Sports Network at all NC State Football games.  Combs has been spotting at NC State football games since 1966.  Combs also conducts the post-game interview with the opposing football coach and covers the visiting team's locker room for Wolfpack basketball game broadcasts.

Combs is a 1969 graduate of NC State University.  While at NCSU Combs played baseball and was a member of the 1968 College World Series team.  Combs went on to be drafted by the New York Yankees and played four years of professional baseball.  While in high school Combs was the catcher for Hall of Fame pitcher Jim “Catfish” Hunter.

Combs and his wife Debbie have two sons.  Chris, a former baseball player at NC State, now works for the Wolfpack Club and Ryan, also a former baseball player at NC State, is currently working with Senator Richard Burr.
