RALEIGH, N.C. - Head coach Charita J. Stubbs and the entire NC State
volleyball program is encouraging all Wolfpack fans to come and watch
the team begin its year with a two hour scrimmage this Friday, Aug. 17,
at historic Reynolds Coliseum on the NC State campus. Admission is free
and action will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
"Practice
is going very well," said Stubbs. "We're excited to see the number of
bodies that we have that are able to contribute for us. We'd like to
have as many Wolfpack fans as possible come out and watch us compete in
an intra-squad scrimmage before our season begins next week."
Stubbs
will personally introduce all 18 players to the crowd in addition to
the competition. The roster, split into two teams, will compete in four
games. The first two will feature 6:2 rotations, while the last two
will feature 5:1 rotations. The first three games will be played to 30,
while the final contest will be played to 15, just like a regular
season event.
The Red Team will feature Jana Angel, Lindsay
Benac, Allison Davis, Megan Rehmer, Alexandra Smith, Amber Spolarich, Nicole Sweet,
Ashley Wallace, Janay Yancey and Lauren Zaniboni.
Andrea
Bentley, Keri DeMar, Carlee Fowler, Nicole Huber, Aiwane Iboaya, Taylor
Pritchard, Kasey Rhyne and Chrissy Zirpolo will
combine to form the White Team.
"Our level of volleyball has
really improved from last season, and we look forward to continuing to
grow and improve," said Stubbs. "The volleyball I.Q. of this team has
grown tremendously."
The 2007 State unit features eight
returning letterwinners from a season ago, as well as 10 highly touted
freshmen. Friday's scrimmage will also mark the debut of new assistant
coach Kasey Harwell.
Stubbs and company will kick-start the
season at the North Carolina Central Tournament in Durham, N.C., Aug.
24-25. The Pack will compete in four matches across the two-day field.
