Eugene Wins Governor’s Award

RALEIGH, N.C. - Redshirt sophomore tailback Jamelle Eugene has been named the 2007 recipient of the Governor’s Award, which is given to the member of the football squad who is the ‘most valuable player based on ability, contribution, leadership, and intangibles.” Eugene played a major role in the Wolfpack’s four-game winning streak over the second half of the season, gaining 800 all-purpose yards in the last seven games. He is the first sophomore to win the award since it was established in 1960.

O’Brien recently cited Eugene’s work ethic and practice habits as big factors behind the Wolfpack’s second-half improvement in 2007.

Cary Brewbaker Award (Most Valuable Defensive Lineman) – Alan Michael Cash

Most Valuable Defensive Back – DaJuan Morgan

Most Valuable Linebacker – Ernest Jones

Jim Ritcher Award (Most Valuable Offensive Lineman) – Luke Lathan

Special Teams Player of the Year – Darrell Blackman

Most Valuable Offensive Back – Jamelle Eugene

Mike Hardy Award (Player who demonstrates a winning attitude and plays above his capabilities) – Pat Bedics

Bo Rein Award (Player who makes a vital contribution in an unsung role) – Steven Hauschka

Bob Warren Award (Integrity and Sportsmanship) – Daniel Evans

Al Michaels Award (Player who puts team before self) – Marcus Stone

Ken McNeil Iron Wolf Award (Greatest comeback from injury) – DeMario Pressley

Earle Edwards Award (Letterman with highest GPA) – Luke Lathan

Gary Rowe Award (Most receptions) – John Dunlap

Captains Awards – Martrel Brown, John Dunlap, Marcus Stone
