No. 40 W. Tennis Blanks Elon, 7-0

No. 40 NC State women's tennis blitzed Elon, 7-0, to open the 2008 season. The Wolfpack (1-0) won all six singles and three doubles matches in a perfect showing. In singles, NC State lost just 21 games in 11 sets against the Phoenix. Freshman Lenka Hojckova won her debut singles and doubles match to help the Wolfpack charge.

NC State got off to a quick start in doubles, as Neils Barringer and Catherine Grotz downed Anna Milian and Hayley Wahl, 8-2, at No. 3.

Julia Roach and Hojckova took the doubles point with a strong 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles before Berkeley Brock and Daria Petrovic finished the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win against Bailey/Tucci.

Singles play brought more dominance from the Wolfpack rackets. Brock won her first set 6-1 before her opponent had to withdraw with an injury, giving NC State a quick 2-0 lead.

Barringer wasted little time in making it 3-0, as she won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, over Laura Graybill.

Senior Julia Roach was solid once again, taking out Anna Milian at No. 3, 6-1, 7-5 to clinch the match win for the Pack.

Hojckova won at No. 2 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in her first career match with the red and white.

Kristen Bleakley and Catherine Grotz combined to allow just six games in four sets as they both finished off their opponents for the 7-0 sweep.
