Raleigh, N.C. - The No. 54 NC State men's tennis team fell in a close match to No. 66 Duke, 4-3, on Wednesday, March 19 at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Complex. The Pack is now 7-8 (0-2 ACC) on the season.
NC State lost the doubles point, with the No. 9 doubles tandem of Nick Cavaday and Jay Weinacker getting the Pack's only victory, 8-3, at No. 1 over Goulet and Price. James McGee and Christian Welte fell 8-3 at No. 2, and Derek Stephens and David Chermak lost at No. 3, 9-8 (5).
No. 70 McGee was the first to finish his singles match, swiftly defeating Dimitrove, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 1. Cavaday fell to No. 51 Goulet at No. 2, 6-4, 6-1, and No. 57 Carleton defeated Weinacker, 7-5, 6-1 at No. 3.
Derek Stephens won the second singles match for the Pack, defeating Stone, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5, and Chermak followed with a win of his own over Pinsky, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 6. The win came down to the No. 4 match, with Arnould emerging with the win over Welte, 7-6 (7), 3-6, 7-6 (3).
The Pack stays in Raleigh to take on Boston College on Friday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at the Isenhour Tennis Complex.
