Martinez Fifth All-Time in Steeplechase

Sophomore John Martinez ran the fifth-best time in school history in the steeplechase at the Cardinal Invitational and freshman Eric Davis won the high jump at the Duke Twilight meet to lead NC State track and field on Sunday. Martinez's time of 8:44.92 was also his second NCAA Regional Qualifying Mark in the event this season.

Gavin Coombs also hit his second NCAA mark in the steeplechase with a time of 9:00.21.

At the Duke Twilight meet, Davis won the high jump with a height of 6'06.75" to win the event.

John Crews set a season-high and notched his first NCAA regional mark of the outdoor season with a time of 14:01.23 in the 5,000m to finish tenth at the Cardinal Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.

Chris Kollar finished fourth in the 1,500m at Stanford, as well.

Kevin Hutton ran a team-best 47.53 in the 400m dash to take second place at the Duke Twilight meet.

A'Tolani Akinkuotu was second in the 100m with his third fastest time of the year, a 10.57. Reggie Reese ran a 10.74 (fourth) and Dexter Adams was fifth with a 10.82 in the same event.

Adams led the way with a 4-5-6 Wolfpack finish in the 200m dash. He rank a 21.62 for fourth, followed closely by Reese (21.66) and Hutton (21.78).

Jason Jones led all collegiate competitors in the shot put with a throw of 57'03.50", finishing second behind only former NC State all-American Mitchell Pope in the event.

Travis Weston finished third in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump, and Charles Weinfeld was fourth in the Javelin.
