RALEIGH, N.C. – The new-look Wolfpack volleyball team put on an impressive performance in its home court debut at the Hilton/RTP NC State Classic on Friday, Sept. 12, shutting out Norfolk State, 3-0. The victory extends the Pack’s winning streak to three straight, pushing its record to 3-6. The Spartans dip to 2-7 with the loss.

Arlee Tamietti paved the way with an offensive display, racking up 12 kills and a service ace, in addition to three digs and three blocks. Allyson Weissberg and Alex Smith each supplied six kills, with Smith also lifting 24 assists. Kelly Wood (14 digs) and Nikki Sweet (12 digs) supplied solid defense, as did Aiwane Iboaya and Jana Angel (4 blocks each).

Set one featured nine tied scores and three lead changes before the Pack took control for good at 18-17 on a Smith kill. Norfolk State wouldn’t score again, as State quickly picked up seven-straight scores for a 25-17 decision.

Simply put, the Wolfpack dominated from start to finish in the second stanza, cruising to a 25-8 win. The Pack hit a season-best .400, while NSU recorded more attack errors (7) than kills (4).

State never trailed in the third and final set, collecting the first six points and extending its lead to 11 at 16-5. But Norfolk State fought back, trimming the score to 24-18 before a Tamietti kill shut the door on the contest, 25-18.

NC State will return to the court tonight at 7 p.m. to face William & Mary. The Tribe topped UNC Asheville, 3-2, earlier this morning.
