WOODSTOCK, ONTARIO – Rising junior Matt Hill’s impressive season of golf continues, as he left the rest of the field in his wake last Friday by firing an overall 14-under par 270 (69-67-69-65) to claim the 2009 Investors Group Ontario Amateur crown. The 20-year old added yet another title to his impressive record, finishing seven strokes ahead of his nearest competitor at Oxford Golf and Country Club at Craigowan.

This weekend, Hill is competing in the PGA’s Canadian Open. The last Canadian to win their National Championship was in 1954. Trying to end the 54-year drought are Nick Taylor and Matt Hill, who are paired together in Thursday’s first round. They are the No. 1 and 2 ranked players, respectfully, in the R&A World Amateur Rankings. Nick Taylor was low amateur in the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage and recently lost in the finals of the U.S. Public Links to Brad Benjamin. Matt Hill won seven of his last eight collegiate events including the NCAA Championship, which earned him the ACC player of the year award.
