CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – Virginia’s Ross LaBauex scored the game’s lone goal in the 21st minute of play, as No. 7 Virginia downed the 14th-ranked Wolfpack men’s soccer team Saturday night in Charlottesville, Va., 1-0.
After a Wolfpack foul, LaBauex connected on a restart from 25 yards out, to score the only goal of the game at the 20:42 mark.
The game was a defensive battle throughout, as the two teams combined for only 12 shots, with Virginia having a slight 7-5 edge. Virginia’s Diego Restrepo earned the shutout with three saves, while NC State’s Christopher Widman finished with two in the Pack’s goal.
NC State concludes the regular season 12-5-1 overall, and 2-5-1 in ACC play. The Cavs are now unbeaten in their last eight contests, and improve to 12-3-2 and 4-3-1 in conference play.
The Pack will be the No. 7 seed in next week’s ACC Tournament in Cary, N.C., and NC State will take on North Carolina on Wednesday. The time of the game will be announced on Monday.
