Chuck Harrelson of Sonitrol presents the check to David Horning, NC State Senior Associate AD, to go towards a scholarship

NC State’s Leroy Harris has been named the inaugural Sonitrol Offensive Lineman of the Year.  The senior offensive guard from Raleigh, North Carolina, was recently named to the 2006 ACSMA/AP All-ACC Football Team, released by the ACC office this past Monday. And, if that’s not enough, Harris has now been recognized as NC State’s Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Being touted by his coaches is nothing new for Harris. He was recognized on a regular basis by former NC State Head Coach Chuck Amato on his weekly radio show as The Sonitrol Offensive Lineman of the Week. Now, he’s being singled out for his accomplishments during the entire 2006 season.

Harris started 42 straight contests dating back to his freshman season. He played all-three offensive line positions in 2006 and led the team this season with 59 knockdown blocks in 10 games. “The Offensive Line is truly the backbone of the team, and it’s easy to see how Leroy played such a big part with statistics like these,” stated John Hoffmann of Sonitrol.

In recognition of his selection, Sonitrol will award a $1,000 scholarship to NC State University. “We congratulate Leroy on his great season and all for all the hard work he put in on the football field,” said Chuck Harrelson of Sonitrol. “We at Sonitrol are also committed to academics and hope our gift to NC State will help another worthy student fulfill their academic goals.”

Harris’s next goal is to play professional football. He’ll soon start preparing for April’s NFL Draft as he rehabs an ankle injury that sidelined him for the last two games of the season.  Leroy will no doubt leave some big shoes to fill on NC State’s offensive line.
