NC
State athletics, in conjunction with Wake County Human Services and
Dick Capp of the NFL Alumni Association, held a Kids Sports Clinic
on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at NC State’s Wendell Murphy
Football Center. NC State student-athletes and coaches were on hand to run the sports clinic.
The event consisted of a tour of the Murphy Center followed by a sports clinic with
the children and teens having a chance to participate in football,
soccer, volleyball, cheerleading and marital arts. In addition, Mr. and Ms. Wuf came by to entertain the kids.
“The
idea is to present successful local athletes as role models who are
interested in the future of these young people, “Capp says of the
event. “The goal is to help provide a spark and hope to children who
lack the advantages that we had. We encourage the involvement of
student-athletes as a meaningful social experience for themselves and
the kids.”
Wake County Human Services, specifically the
Adoption Resource Team and the Therapeutic Homes Program, promoted
the day with their foster care program.
