TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A Jessica Gilmore RBI single in the bottom of the sixth was all it took for Florida State to top NC State, 1-0, in the first of two games at Dr. JoAnne Graf Field on Saturday, April 26. Play was halted for an hour and 50 minutes in the top of the sixth due to the threat of lightning in the area.

The loss sends the Pack to 29-24 (8-11 ACC), while the Seminoles move to 34-23 (10-9 ACC). Tiffany McDonald (15-9) got the win, while Lindsay Campana (17-16) took the loss. Campana allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Blair Harkey led the red and white at the plate, compiling two hits.

Michelle Snyder picked up a leadoff walk to start the bottom of the third, and Carly Wynn added a one-out single up the middle. Following a double steal, however, Campana fanned Whitney Buckmon and induced an inning-ending dribbler from Gilmore.

The Pack put two runners on in the top of the fourth, but couldn’t eek out a run. Claudia Cooper reached on a fielder’s choice and Allison Presnell singled to second, but Kristine Bechtholdt grounded out to short.

Harkey and Shanna Smith smacked a pair of two outs singles in the top of the fifth, but Mackenzie Mangum went down swinging.

FSU put up the lone run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Wynn lined a single up the middle and took second on a Buckmon sac-bunt. Gilmore then followed with an RBI base hit into left, bringing Wynn around.

Game two will begin shortly.
