Lassiter’s Two Goals Lead #24 Pack over BC in OT, 2-1

RALEIGH, N.C. – For the second time this season, junior Tyler Lassiter found the back of the net twice in a game, and this time it helped the 24th-ranked NC State to its first ACC win of the season. Lassiter scored on a PK in the second half and his gamewinner in the second overtime propelled the Wolfpack (6-2-1, 1-2-1 ACC) to a 2-1 win over visiting Boston College Friday night at Dail Soccer Field.

Boston College (5-5, 1-2 ACC) would get on the scoreboard early, as the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick in just the sixth minute of the contest. Conor Fitzpatrick would take the kick, and open up the scoring at the 5:25 mark.

NC State would also be awarded its first penalty kick of the game after a handball in the box 15 minutes in, but senior Ronnie Bouemboue’s attempt was saved by the Eagles Justin Luthy. The Pack would also have a goal called back, when Lassiter slotted home an apparent goal in the 35th minute, but the Pack was called for offsides.

The play was pretty even in the first 45 minutes, with the Pack recording six shots to the Eagles four. The difference was Luthy in the Eagles net, as he had four saves in the first half.

NC State narrowly missed getting on the scoreboard again in the 60th minute, when Bouemboue rang a shot off the Boston College post.

The Pack’s control of possession game in the second half would pay of in the 65th minute. Junior Chris Zuerner was taken down from behind in the penalty box, and NC State was once again awarded a penalty kick. This time Lassiter stepped up and booted him his first score of the day at the 64:34 mark.

The two squads would play the rest of the second half and the first overtime period to a draw.

Just over two minutes into the second overtime period, the Pack would send the crowd home happy. Bouemboue found Lassiter inside the Eagles’ PK area, and Lassiter would go far post for the gamewinner at the 102:06 mark.

NC State dominated play in the second half and the two overtime periods, outshooting Boston College 13-3, including 6-0 in extra time.

NC State will return to home action this Tuesday night, as the Wolfpack will play host to Wofford at 7:00 p.m. at the Dail Soccer Stadium.
