As a sophomore (2009) • Limited to 27 games and 23 starts because of the knee injury he suffered in the Papajohns.com Bowl at the end of football season • Started 19 games at second base • Missed the first 22 games of the season due to the knee injury • Saw his first action March 24 vs. UNC Greensboro but did not see regular action until mid-April • Started at second base the last 11 games of the season and 16 of the last 19 • Was cleared to play medically on March 23 • Had his first hit and first RBIs of the season March 28 vs. Virginia Tech • Started in right field in the finale of the BC series and went 2-for-5, drove in two runs and made two excellent, run-saving catches in the outfield • Went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBIs on May 2 at Campbell • Went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs May 3 in the second game of a doubleheader vs. N.C. With the NC State football team • Completed 150 passes in 275 attempts for 1955 yards, 17 touchdowns and just one interception in 2008 to earn first-team All-ACC honors as a redshirt freshman
Summer league • Played 25 games for the Gastonia Grizzlies of the Coastal Plain League in 2009 and batted .205
High school • Played for Coach Tommy Nuckols • Earned all-metro and all-state honors as a senior in 2007 after batting .536 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs • Also pitched and went 6-2 with 52 strikeouts and a 1.83 ERA • Was all-state in baseball all four years, and was all-state in football as a sophomore, junior and senior • Batted .467 as a junior in 2006 • Is on a football scholarship as a quarterback, but plans to play both football and baseball at NC State
