As a sophomore (2006): Made just seven appearances before being shut down for the remainder of the season with a stress fracture in his left hip … Reported discomfort in the hip early in the season and never seemed to get untracked … Had his best outing March 31 at home vs. Virginia, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings, walking three and striking out a season-high 10 … Had his season high for innings April 21 with a seven-inning appearance at North Carolina.

As a freshman (2005): Did not join the Wolfpack baseball team until March 26 and did not make his first appearance until April 2, but still made a huge contribution as NC State won every game in which he appeared … Made three appearances out of the bullpen and had a 1.29 ERA with no record in relief … Went 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA as a starter … Allowed more than one earned run in a game just twice in 10 appearances … Struck out five in six scoreless innings of his first start, April 20 at East Carolina, allowing just two hits and three walks in the Wolfpack’s 3-0 win … Started April 29 against seventh-ranked North Carolina and struck out 12 in seven innings of work … The 12 strikeouts were the most by an NC State pitcher since March 5, 2004, when Michael Rogers fanned 12 at San Diego State and the most by an NC State freshman since April 26, 1987, when Preston Woods fanned 13 in a 6-1 loss to Georgia Tech … Combined with Jason Duncan and Joey Devine to strike out 18 Tar Heels that night, the most by NC State ever in an ACC game … Started May 12 at ECU and allowed just two hits, picking up another 3-0 win … Pitched a gem May 25 against eighth-ranked Miami in the first round of the ACC Tournament, allowing one run on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts in seven innings to earn the victory.

Basketball (2004-06): Played in 32 games as a sophomore in 2005-06 … Scored 7.6 points per game, with 3.5 rebounds per contest … Shot .506 from the field, including .333 from three-point range … Scored a season-high 16 points twice, vs. George Washington and North Carolina … Had a season-high seven rebounds four different games … Had five assists vs. Florida State … Played forward and appeared in all 35 games, starting 14 and averaging 7.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 18.7 minutes-per-game while shooting .806 from the free throw line as a freshman in 2004-05.

Summer league: Played for the Orleans Cardinals of the Cape Cod League in 2006, making six appearances, including two starts … Won his only decision and had a 1.06 ERA … Still was named the No. 2 prospect in the league in a Baseball America poll of scouts, managers and coaches … Left the Cape in early August to fill a vacancy on the USA Baseball staff … Made two appearances for Team USA, including one start. Had no decisions and a 0.00 ERA in four innings of work … Made one appearance in the FISU World Championships, a start vs. Mexico … Allowed one unearned run on one hit in three innings.

High school: Played for coach Mike Cameron at Moeller High School … One of the top high school pitchers in the country, and a two-sport standout for Moeller … Had a career ERA of 1.04, the seventh best in the history of Ohio high school baseball … Helped lead Moeller to a 28-3 record and the Ohio state championship as a senior … Ranked as the No. 18 senior in America by Team One Baseball … Listed as the No. 4 prospect in Ohio for the 2004 draft by Baseball America … Had a perfect 7-0 record with one save and a 0.60 ERA … Worked 47 1/3 innings, and allowed 21 hits and 14 walks while striking out 83 … Went 6-1 with one save and a 1.19 ERA as a junior in 2003, helping Moeller to a 19-7 record and the conference championship … Allowed 31 hits while walking 14 and striking out 63 in 47 innings … Made seven starts and threw four complete games … Was runner-up for Mr. Basketball in Ohio by the Associated Press … Shared Ohio's Division I Player of the Year honors, and was named first-team all-state … Averaged 20.2 points and 6.5 rebounds as a senior … Led conference in scoring and field-goal percentage (.654), and was second in free-throw percentage (.882) … Team went 22-3, losing in the regional finals … Rated the No. 42 prospect nationally by Insiders.com and No. 43 by PrepStars following his senior season.
