RALEIGH,
N.C. – Jason Morgan, NC State’s only
affiliated runner, fell down twice and was not a factor in the men’s race at
the 2007 Wolfpack Invitational, but the Wolfpack still ruled the day.
True freshmen Bobby Moldovan and Andrew North, true freshmen
with the Wolfpack this season but running unattached to preserve their redshirt
status, finished first and second in the 5k race at the SAS Complex in Cary. Geoff King was fifth
at 15:50.22, and Scott Crews was 10th at 16:08.97. Greg Dame,
another Wolfpack freshman running unattached, was 13th at 16:21.48,
and Srini Iyer was 16th at 16:40.46.
Morgan, knocked down in an inadvertent collision with
another runner just past the two-mile mark, finished 21st in the
22-man field. He was running near the front of the field at the time of the
collision.
In the women’s race, former NC State runners Kris Roth and
Georgia Davis finished an easy 1-2. Roth took first place in a time of 17:37.6,
followed by Davis
at 18:00.34. Duke’s Katie Doswell was third at 18:23.49. Krista Moss, entered
as NC State’s
only affiliated runner in the women’s race, was 11th at 19:42.39. Christena
Tozel, a junior who is redshirting this season for NC State, was 14th
at 20:15.35.
In the team standings, Duke and North Carolina were the only schools that
fielded full teams for the men’s race. Duke finished first with 22 points, to
UNC’s 33. Duke was the only school to field a complete team in the women's race.
