No. 53 Men's Tennis Downs No. 49 Georgia Tech, 6-1

Raleigh, N.C. - The No. 53 NC State men's tennis team defeated No. 49 Georgia Tech, 6-1, on Friday, March 28, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. Even though the Pack lost the doubles point, NC State fought back to sweep all the singles matches. With the win, the Pack is now 10-8 (3-2 ACC), and Georgia Tech falls to 11-8, 1-5 ACC).

James McGee and Christian Welte fell to Guillermo Gomez and George Gvelsiani, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles. The No. 9 doubles tandem of Nick Cavaday and Jay Weinacker also fell, 8-4, at No. 1 to Scott Blackmon and Ryan Smith. David Chermak and Derek Stephens picked up the Pack's only doubles win, defeating Eliot Potvin and Miguel Muguruza, 8-6, at No. 3.

NC State rallied back in the singles matches, with three players going into third sets. Cavaday swiftly took down Blackmon, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 2, and Stephens quickly followed with a win of his own over Doug Kenny, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 5. Weinacker defeated Smith, 7-6, 6-4, at No. 3.

No. 70 McGee clinched the win for the Pack in the third set, 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, at No. 1. Chermak also went into a third set and emerged with the win over Austin Roebuck, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, at No. 6. Welte battled through a third set of his own, finishing the Pack's sweep of the singles, defeating Potvin, 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, at No. 5.

NC State will next host Clemson on Sunday, March 30, at 1 p.m., at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
