No. 37 NC State Takes Season Opener Over High Point, 6-1

Raleigh, N.C. – No. 37 NC State men’s tennis started its season off on the right foot, collecting a win over High Point, 6-1, to begin spring competition. The Pack collected the doubles point early on before grabbing five victories in singles play. With the win, NC State moves to 1-0 on the season while High Point slides to 0-1.

In doubles, senior William Noblitt and sophomore Christian Welte made quick work of Julien Antraygues and Maxime Dutois, 8-2, at No. 2. Senior Andre Iriarte and freshman Frideric Prandecki got off to a sluggish start at No. 3, falling behind 3-0 to David Perren and Jim Trussler. The Pack duo clawed its way back to 7-6, but dropped the final game and lost the decision, 8-6. Junior Nick Cavaday and sophomore Ben Zink secured the doubles point for the red and white with a win at No. 1, 8-6, over Benjamin Deloume and Jack Notton.

The Pack cruised through singles play, winning at five spots. Cavaday, ranked No. 99 nationally, downed Notton, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1, while Noblitt topped Deloumne, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2. Welte followed with a win over Antraygues at No. 3, 6-2, 6-3, as Iriarte flew past Dutois, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 4. With the win already secured, Zink fell to Henri Mangin at No. 5 after collecting the front frame, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6). Prandecki grabbed his first career win over Trussler, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 6 to end play.

NC State will compete two more times throughout the day, taking on Gardner-Webb at 2 p.m. and the Citadel at 6 p.m. Match recaps and complete scores will be available following each of the Pack's contests on GoPack.com shortly following the completion of each competition.
