COLLEGE PARK, Md. – NC State volleyball lost to Maryland, 3-0, in its final match of the week on Friday, Oct. 31. The loss moves the Pack to 9-19 (3-10 ACC), while the Terrapins improve to 6-18 (2-10 ACC).

Arlee Tamietti led State’s offense with nine kills and a service ace, while Alex Smith posted team highs in assists (24) and digs (13). Aiwane Iboaya led the squad in blocks with four total.

Katie Usher (13) and Brittney Grove (10) combined for 23 of the Terps 42 kills, while Hayley Hanson (18 assists) and Sharon Strizak (15 assists) shared the load at setter. Bethany Springer recorded 13 digs, and Usher added four blocks.

Maryland collected both the opening and second frames by the same score, 25-22. A competitive first set saw nine tied scores and four lead changes, but the Pack’s nine attack errors erased its nine kills. Both parties offered its best hitting percentages of the night in the second set, but the Terps .229 just barely eclipsed State’s .226.

The third and final dance was especially competitive as the score was knotted on six separate occasions before Maryland grabbed a 25-19 decision. The Pack grabbed the opening score but never led after a Grove killed followed to tie things up at 1-all.

NC State will stay on the road next week, competing at Virginia Tech and Virginia.
