Rio Grande, P.R. – The NC State men’s golf team brought home a sixth place finish at the 2009 Puerto Rico Classic this weekend. The Pack placed three golfers in the top-20 in the individual standings.
In Sunday’s third and final round, the Pack shot a three-over (291), its lowest round of the tournament. NC State had a seven-under in the first round, followed by a two-under in Saturday’s second round. NC State finished the tournament at six-under (858).
Georgia brought home the top team honors, finishing at 38-under. Hudson Swafford of Georgia and Dylan Fritelli of Texas tied for first in the individual standings, each finishing at 12-under (204).
Sophomore Matt Hill was NC State’s top finisher on the day, as he tied for 12th at five-under (211). Hill shot an even-par (72) in the final round, after his first two rounds were both under par (69 and 70).
Senior Andrew Byrd had a string showing for the Pack, as he was two shots behind Hill and finished tied for 17th. Byrd also shot an even-par (72) round on Sunday, and finished the tournament at three-under (213).
Fellow senior Darren Blair had the Pack’s top round on Sunday, as he was one-under (71), and finished in 20th place overall at two-under (214).
Junior Brad Revell and Brandon Detweiler tied each other by finishing 10-over (226) for the tournament.
