On Thursday, April 12, was a special night of recognition for NC State Athletics, as The Academic Support Program for Student Athletes (ASPSA) hosted the Caterpillar Scholar Athlete Banquet. The event celebrated a great year of accomplishments for Pack student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the playing field, honoring 381 student athletes who earned a semester grade point average of 3.0 or higher during Spring 2011 and/or Fall 2011, including 196 Dean’s List recipients.

Dave and Matt Thomson of the men’s tennis squad served as emcees for the evening. They started the program by expressing gratitude to the students, faculty, coaches, staff and administrators. They gave a special thanks to the corporate sponsor, Caterpillar, Inc. for the recognition they provide to the students for their hard work throughout the school year.

After brief remarks, Alex Johnson, from the men’s basketball team gave the invocation and TIa Bell from women’s basketball inspired those in attendance with her speech on reflections as a scholar athlete.

Caterpillar, Inc. has sponsored the Scholar-Athlete Banquet for the past 10 years. Jason Becker, Industry Manager of Caterpillar, Inc., gave remarks concerning the academic accomplishments of State’s scholar-athletes. He also expressed Caterpillar’s commitment to the students and how proud they are to sponsor the event. He added that he looks forward to partnering with NC State in the future.
