Dick Christy was promoted to Associate Athletics Director for External Operations in the summer of 2005 after five years of service with the athletics department in various roles throughout the athletic ticket office.
He is currently responsible for overseeing the Athletic Ticket Office, Marketing, Media Relations, GoPack.com, Video & Multi-media, Band, Cheerleading and will serve on the ICA Cabinet.
Christy will also operate as the sport supervisor for men's and women's golf.
During Christy's tenure, external operations has accommodated unprecedented demand for most of NC State's varsity sports. The enthusiasm of Wolfpack fans has created exciting new challenges in accommodating and servicing this incredible growth. Gross receipts from all of NC State's athletic events have totaled over $16 million dollars each year since 2004, providing a solid foundation for NC State Athletics' operating budget. With major renovations and facility enhancement projects still in the works, athletics staff members will likely have to continue to adapt to the growing popularity of Wolfpack Athletics.
Marketing & Video staff members lead the difficult task of coordinating advertising, promotions, and enhancing the game-day atmosphere at all of NC State's sporting events. Through coordinated promotions with Wolfpack Sports Marketing, NC State is making every effort to fill each seat with enthusiastic Wolfpack fans to best support our student-athletes.
The External Operations Department has played a leadership role in hosting numerous NCAA post-season events since 2003. Christy has assumed the role of Tournament Manager for the '05 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship 2nd Rounds, the '07 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship 1st/2nd Rounds, the '08 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship 1st/2nd Rounds, the '08 NCAA Baseball Regional Championship, and Tournament Director for the '09 NCAA Women's Basketball Regional Finals. The Athletics Department is hopeful for future successful bids to bring more Championship events to Raleigh.
In his time at NC State, Dick has served as Ticket Office Assistant, Assistant Director of Ticket Operations, Director of Ticket Operations, and Assistant AD before assuming his current role upon the departure of mentor and current Appalachian State AD Charlie Cobb.
Christy attended Wingate University in Union County, N.C., and currently serves on their Bulldog Club Board of Directors. Upon graduating with a bachelor of science degree in sport management, he came straight to Raleigh to begin his career at NC State.
As a student-athlete, Christy was a four-year letterman on the men's golf team at Wingate. The Chichester, Pa., native captained the team in 2000-2001.
Christy received his Masters of parks, recreation, & tourism management degree, emphasizing in sport management, from NC State. Dick married the former Windy Dotson of Rutherfordton, N.C., in July of 2005. Windy is an orthopaedic spine Physicians Assistant with Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic, a certified Athletic Trainer and graduate of Duke University. They reside here in Raleigh.
