Julie Rice Mallette joined the NC State Athletic Department in August 2012 as Director of Compliance for Financial Aid on a half-time basis. She serves as the liaison to each sport's recruiting coordinator and coaches, in their discussions with current student-athletes, recruits, and parents on Federal, State of NC, and institutional financial aid.
In addition, she is responsible for the facilitation of athletics' fiscal processes related to NC State's Office of Scholarships& Student Aid and the University Cashier's Office and their compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.
Julie retired from NC State on January 1, 2012, after serving 20 years as Associate Vice Provost and Director of Scholarships & Student Aid from 1992-2012. During that period, NC State's financial aid portfolio grew from total aid of $28M to over $300M and new programs such as Pack Promise and Goodnight Scholars were created.
Julie came to NC State as Associate Director of Scholarships& Financial in 1991 after serving as Assistant Director of Financial Aid at UNC-Chapel Hill from 1985-1991 and Assistant Director of Financial Aid at UNC Greensboro from 1980-1985.
She served on the College Board's 12-member Financial Aid Standards and Services Advisory Committee from 1999-2001 which advised on best practices and policy issues of financial aid nationally and was actively involved throughout her career in the national, regional, and state associations for financial aid. She has been a frequent speaker on financing your higher education at high schools, PTAs, and community groups.
In December 2011, Julie received The Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award from North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue, an award presented to individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the state.
A native of Holly Ridge, N.C., Julie earned a B.A. in English/Postsecondary Education from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1978 and an M.A. in Higher Education/Counseling and Guidance from UNC Greensboro in 1981.
