Michelle Lee was named NC State's Senior Woman Administrator and the Associate Athletic Director in July 2009 after serving in those two positions on an interim basis for 14 months. Lee was hired as the Director of Compliance in July 2002, and was promoted to Assistant AD for Compliance in July 2007.
Lee's primary area of responsibility is in the compliance office where she is responsible for the monitoring, education and enforcement of NC State, ACC and NCAA rules and regulations. Lee's primary focus deals with Bylaw 14 concerning initial and continuingeligibility.
In addition to the compliance duties, as SWA, Lee is the sport supervisor for both the men's and women's swimming and diving programs.
In her role as the senior women's administrator,Lee is a Deputy Title IX Coordinator for theuniversityand has the primary area of focus in the role to overseethe department's compliance with Title IX and gender-equity issues.
Lee also serves as the liaison with the ACC office regarding Olympic sport issues.
She participates on various ACC and departmental committees and has responsibilities in long-range planning and scheduling, policy and procedure development and implementation. She also serves on the Intercollegiate Athletics Cabinet. In addition, Lee chaired the Department of Athletics in the yearlong Strategic Planning Process during 2010-11 and is responsible for monitoring the department's progress during the five-year plan.
Lee currently serves as chair of the ACC Constitution and Bylaws Committee as well as chair of the ACC Swimming & Diving Committee. She recently completed a four-year term with the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship Committee where she chaired the NCAA committee during the 2010-11 season. Previously, Lee has served on various ACC committees including the Equity Committee, Finance Committee and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Prior to coming to NC State, Lee served as a Compliance Assistant at East Carolina from May 2000 to July 2002.
She also has an extensive background in tae kwon do. She earned gold medals at the 1994 and '95 Olympic Festivals, and was a silver medalist at the 1995 World Tae Kwon Do Championships held in Manilla, Phillippines. She has obtained a fourth degree black belt, and has trained and lived at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Lee earned her Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science and Sport Studies from UNC Greensboro in 1998, and then went on to receive a masters degree in athletic and physical education administration from East Carolina in 2001.
Michelle and Michael Lee were married in September of 2001, and the couple currently resides in Raleigh with their sonJoseph.
