The 2011-12 school year marks Chris Morland's ninth year at NC State working with the track and field, swimming and diving, wrestling programs, while assisting with other teams. Three student-athletes under Morland's direction have collected NCAA individual championships: Cullen Jones (50 freestyle swimming, 2007,) Kristen Davies (10-meter diving, 2009,) and Darrion Caldwell (149 lbs. wrestling, 2009). The wrestling team claimed the ACC championship in 2007 by winning seven out of 10 weight divisions and the men's soccer team placed second in the ACC and advanced to the NCAA 2nd round in 2009. Other teams have combined to capture nine ACC championships in the last seven years.

Prior to his time at NC State, Morland coached at the North Texas where he directed the strength and conditioning program for all track and field athletes and coached the throwers, helping the women's team to a conference championship in 2003.

Morland has been a member of the Collegiate Strength Conditioning Coaches Association for five years and attained the College Strength and Conditioning certification in May of 2010. He was also certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2004. He has also directed the student internship program at NC State, bringing in numerous young professionals through the years and strengthening the staff. Twenty-five former interns now work as professionals in the field.

The coaching principles that guide his programs come from a pro-educational approach to training to be the best athlete (to run, to jump, and to throw). Some of his former strength coaches include Kansas' Steve Javorek and LSU's Tommy Moffitt. Morland's training style can be summed up in this statement: "a successful athlete must prepare through purposeful blocks of endurance training, basic strength, and specific-speed and power development to achieve peak performance."

As a thrower at Tennessee, Morland twice earned invitations to the NCAA Championships. He was inducted into his junior college Hall of Fame in February 2006 for his two national championship titles there.

Chris and his wife Cathy have two children, son Benjamin Oscar and daughter Bethany Cate.
