Dr. Shannon Yates has been a member of the NC State Department of Athletics since 1994. She is currently the assistant athletics director for game operations. She has also held the title as varsity sports administrator during her time with the Wolfpack. Yates is responsible for game-day management for all Wolfpack football, men's basketball, and women's basketball games, overseeing event service staff, security, parking, credentials, first aid and stadium policies. During her time with the Wolfpack, Yates past duties also included serving as the sport administrator for volleyball, gymnastics and cheerleading. Yates began her career at NC State as a student trainer in 1988. In 1992, after completing her undergraduate degree in psychology, she joined the department as a marketing intern. Two years later, she became administrative coordinator for finance and operations and worked in the areas of game-day operations, tickets and finance. After serving as director of operations for women's basketball during the 1996-97 school year, Yates returned to her role of managing the Wolfpack's game-day events a year later and remained in that capacity until she was promoted to assistant athletics director in 1998. Yates was co-chairman for the NCAA Men's Basketball Local Organizing Committee in 2008 and was the director of EAGL and NCAA gymnastics championships hosted by NC State in 2009. She was the director of event services for the U2 concert held in October of 2009 at Carter-Finley Stadium. Yates has served on numerous departmental, institutional, and conference committees throughout her tenure. Currently, she is a member of the following committees at NC State: Internal Operations, External Operations, Facilities Operations, Gender Equity, Minority Enhancement, Occupational Safety and Health Council, Disability Compliance Advisory Team, and chair of the NC State Athletics Safety Committee. Yates also represents NC State at the Atlantic Coast Conference, serving on the ACC Gender Equity Committee and the Committee on Committees. She acted as NC State's liaison during the NCAA athletics certification process, and has since served on two separate NCAA Peer Review Committees. Among her many accolades, Yates was named the 2009 Gymnastics Southeast Region Administrator of the Year. During the 2009-2010 gymnastics season, Yates took her commitment to the program to the next level by personally endowing a gymnastics scholarship in the name of Coach Mark Stevenson as a celebration of his 30th year at NC State. Yates is a 1992 summa cum laude graduate of NC State with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology. She earned her master of science degree in sports administration at NC State in 1994 and has been a lecturer since 1996, where she teaches in the field of Sport Administration at NC State.
