
Pope Finishes Second at NCAA Championships

Raleigh, N.C. - Mitchell Pope of the NC State track and field team earned All-America honors on the final day of competition at the 2007 Outdoor NCAA Championships held in Sacramento, Calif. Pope finished second in the shot put with a top throw of 64'09.75", earning Pope his third career All-American honor. This was his first such honor during the outdoor season, and he also earned All-American honors in the indoor shot put this season.
Pope tied the NC State record for the highest finish at the NCAA Championships by a thrower. With his second place showing, Pope ties Bob Medlin (shot put) in 1977 and Mike Murphy (javelin) in 1980, as the highest finishers in the throws in school history.
