PAUL DERR TRACK FACILITY
Newly renovated Paul Derr Track is located in the heart of the NC State University campus and recently went through a nearly $5 million dollar facelift as it reopens in 2008. The original Paul Derr Track Facility has served the Raleigh community, athletics department and the university since the 1960s and previously underwent a $1 million renovation in 1994.
Derr Track has hosted numerous championship events over the years, including ACC Championships, North Carolina prep championships, Junior Strider meets, Special Olympics and many more events have all been held at Derr Track.
Derr Track has served as a training site for several international teams prior to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Australia, New Zealand, and Norway all brought their athletes to Raleigh to prepare for the Summer Games.
In addition to serving as a staging area for Olympic teams, Derr track has become the site of some of the nation’s and region’s biggest meets.
The Raleigh Relays, which is one of the largest outdoor meets on the East coast, playing host to approximately 2,000 collegiate competitors annually
2003 and 1996 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships
The NCAA Division II National Championships
National Scholastic Championships, in which the nation’s top track and field prepsters competed in Raleigh from 1994-2004.
