NC State Sweeps Second Place at the #NDInvite

Strong lead packs near the front seal the Wolfpack’s big result
Results
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Both NC State cross country teams finished second in the team standings at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite on Friday afternoon. The men's team finished with four athletes in the top-13, and the women had four runners in the top-19, as the Wolfpack passed its first big test of the season.
Team Results:
The 14th-ranked women's team finished in second out of 21 teams with 74 points. They bested third-place Notre Dame by 49 points. The 27th-ranked men's team also had a strong race, taking second out of 20 with 97 points. No. 26 Colorado State finished in third with 126 points.
Frazier Goes Back-to-Back:
After a dominating performance at the adidas XC Challenge, true freshman Ryen Frazier finished as the individual women's champion for the second-straight meet. Frazier opened the race in the front group, and ran behind New Mexico's leading trio for the first mile of the course. By the final 1,000m, the Raleigh, N.C., native broke away from the group to finish four seconds ahead of the second-place runner.
Debuts:
On the women's side, Erika Kemp and Samantha George made their season debuts, finishing 10th and 13th, respectively. After the opening mile of competition, Kemp sat in 23rd, but worked her way to the front group and completed her first race of the season with a time of 16:49.8. George stayed in the lead pack for the duration of the race, recording a time of 16:52.9.
True Freshman Sarah Kanney made a debut, running in uniform for the first time of her collegiate career. The Coldwater, Ohio, native took 49th out of 171 runners, crossing the finish line in 17:25.6.
On the men's side, Meron Simon competed in his first race as a member of the Pack. Simon dominated the course and stayed with the lead group the entire race. He finished first on the team and fourth overall with a time of 23:53.8
Sam Parsons also returned to the course for his first race of the season. The 2014 national qualifier finished third on the team and ninth overall with a time of 23:59.4.
After running unattached in the first race of the season, true freshman Tanis Baldwin donned the Red and White uniform for the first time of his collegiate career. Baldwin finished seventh on the team with a time of 25:00.7.
Individual Scorers:
On the women's side, Rachel Koon and Megan Moye, were the team's fourth and fifth-place scorers, respectively. Koon had another strong race, recording her second straight PR. She broke the 17-minute mark, crossing the line in 16:59.6 for 19th overall. Moye scored for the team in her second-straight meet with a time of 17:12.9 for 31st in the individual standings.
On the men's side, Sebastian Hanson finished second on the team and eighth overall with a time of 23:59.1. Barki Abushouk rounded out the group in the front pack, crossing the finish line in 24:07.3 four fourth on the team and 13th overall. Sam Roberson also scored as NC State's fifth runner, checking in with a time of 24:47.0.
PACKing Up:
Both teams entered the race with goals of running together near the front. The top-four women finished within 19 places, while the men's top four placed within 10 spots and 11 seconds of each other.
Open Results:
In the open race, four NC State runners finished in the top 10. Alyssa Rudawsky led the way in third, while Rachel Bartolomeo, Esther Fisher and Gianna Frontera finished sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Up Next:
In two weeks, the team will return to action at the Wisconsin Invitational, which is regarded as the closest regular-season simulation to the NCAA Championships during the regular season.
