
Chavis Opens Season with Nation’s Top Mark

LYNCHBURG, Va. – NC State opened the track season with a successful first day at the Liberty Kickoff, which included the women's weight throw and the first four events of the men's heptathlon.
Nicole Chavis won the weight throw with a toss of 67'3.50". Her throw currently ranks first in the nation. The Lumberton, N.C., native reached the mark on her fourth throw. Only four of her throws from the 2014-15 indoor season traveled farther than her throw today.
Grant Rivers sits in third place in the heptathlon standings with 2,668 points after four events. Rivers finished fifth in the 60m dash (7.56), second in the long jump (20-04.25), fifth in the shot put (36-09.50) and third in the high jump (6-06.00).
Rivers will conclude the meet with the 60m hurdles, pole vault and the 1,000m race tomorrow.
Joshua Davis will also be in action, competing in the men's weight throw.
