
Men’s DMR Record Falls, Pack Earns Top-10 Finishes at UCS Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the fourth time in as many weeks and the eighth time this season, the NC State No. 8 women's and No. 18 men's track and field team has set a new indoor school record.
On Saturday at the JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem, the men's DMR team made its first appearance of the season and debuted with a school record-breaking performance. Luis Vargas closed the final 1,600m leg in 3:59.98 to clinch the record.
Graham Crawford also improved on his season-best indoor mile time, and a host of Wolfpackers finished in the top-10.
Mid-Distance:
Crawford took the win in the mile, finishing with his fastest time of the season in 4:02.25. The mark is half a second faster than his Camel City mile time and the conversion will move him up in the national rankings. He currently ranks 24th.
Nick Link and Patrick Sheehan also nabbed top-10 finishes, as Link finished sixth in 4:12.93 and Sheehan took seventh in 4:13.85.
True freshman Tanis Baldwin competed unattached and finished fifth in 4:12.26 to lower his season-best time by .60 seconds.
Jack Hagood finished ninth, crossing the finish line in 4:17.68.
On the women's side, a pair of unattached runners took home top-five honors, as Bethany Neeley was third in 5:01.57, and Megan Vaughn finished right behind for fourth in 5:02.71.
Relays:
NC State added yet another school record to its extensive list of season highlights, as the team of Meron Simon, Shannon Patterson, Philip Hall and Vargas, crossed the finish line in 9:39.01 to break the record, which was set in 2012.
Simon completed the opening 1,200m portion in 2:56.72, Patterson added a 50.08 400m leg, Hall ran the 800m leg in 1:52.21, while Vargas anchored the group with an impressive 3:59.98 1,600m leg.
The mark ranks 27th in the nation and fifth in the ACC. It beats the 2012 record of 9:40.05 by just over a second. Additionally, the mark qualifies the Pack for the ACC Championships.

Rachel Bartolomeo finished seventh in 10:15.24, while Theresa Enright (unattached) rounded out the top-10 in 10:24.29.
On the men's side, the Wolfpack placed four runners in the top-10 of section one. Sam Parsons took second in 8:17.23. Bakri Abushouk finished 5th in 8:29.21. Aaron Thomas crossed the finish line in 8:35.61, while Zack Langston took ninth in 8:52.30.
