The Wolfpack defeated Louisville 5-2 in its third conference dual on the road
LOUISVILLE, KY. – No. 55 NC State women's tennis captured its first conference win of the season in a 5-2 victory over Louisville on Friday.
Â
Along with its first conference win, NC State collected the doubles point for the first time against an ACC opponent Friday afternoon. Playing No. 3 doubles, Joanna Nalborska and Bianca Moldovan earned a swift 6-1 win over Olivia Boesing and Sena Suswam followed by a 6-2 victory from Martina Frantova and Tayla Stenta over Abbie Pahz and Ariana Rodriguez at the No. 1 position to clinch the doubles point.
Â
No. 63 Frantova earned the first singles win for the Pack in a quick 6-2, 6-2 win over Rodriguez shortly followed by a 6-1, 6-2 victory from Amanda Rebol over Ola Mally at the No. 5 singles. Nalborska clinched the match for the Wolfpack Friday afternoon in the No. 2 singles matchup. With a first set win of 6-3, Nalborska trailed in the early portion of the second set but was able to catch her Cardinal opponent, eventually edging Jessie Lynn Paul 7-6 (4) for the win.
Â
Following the dual clinch, Claudia Wiktorin picked up another point for the Wolfpack with her 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Boesing.
Â
"I think today we did a better job in doubles all around. We were aggressive and disciplined with our shots. Martina and Amanda did a good job taking care of their own courts and getting two more points on the board for us quickly. I'm proud of Wiktorin for battling it out and digging deep. Same for Joanna, it could have easily gone into a third set but she showed resiliency by closing it out in the second set. I think we still have a lot of work to do, we can be cleaner and take care of business from the beginning. In the end, it's always good to come home with a win so now we can just focus on what's coming next." - Gina Suarez-Malaguti, assistant coach
Â
The No. 55 Wolfpack improves to 7-3 overall, 1-2 in the ACC while Louisville falls 6-7 overall and remains winless in the ACC after its fifth conference matchup.

NC State returns to action Sunday at 10 a.m. at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center to host No. 24 Syracuse its first conference dual of the season.
