
Distance Trio Dazzles at Stanford Invitational

PALO ALTO, CALIF. – Three distance athletes from NC State's track and field program posted national marks in the elite 5,000m heats at the Stanford Invitational. The marks qualify Graham Crawford, Meron Simon and Luis Vargas for the ACC Championships and are ranked top-10 in the nation.
Simon ran in heat two of the 5,000m, finishing second with a time of 13:58.10. Crawford and Vargas ran in heat one of the 5,000m finishing sixth in 13:42.55 and ninth in 13:50.88, respectively.
The race marked both Vargas' and Simon's outdoor 5,000 debuts, and a seven-second PR for Crawford.
Crawford, who posted the fifth-best time in school history in 2014 moves into the second-spot with his time tonight. Vargas' mark is ranked seventh in school history. Both are also ranked top-five in the national standings. Simon's time is just outside of the top-10 in school history and is eighth in the nation.
The races were outdoor season debuts for the group.
