Raleigh native set to arrive on campus in fall of 2016
we RALEIGH- Raleigh native Drew Grantham signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) Wednesday to join the NC State gymnastics program for the 2017 season, as announced by head coach Mark Stevenson.
A level 10 gymnast from Team Attraction Gymnastics, Grantham trains under NC State alum Monica (Berry) Ward, Todd Shahan and Scott Wilson. She is slated to arrive on campus in the fall of 2016 with Alexis Beucler and Melissa Brooker, who signed NLIs in November of 2015.
"Drew is just now starting to blossom as a gymnast and we believe that she's going to evolve into a strong collegiate gymnast, as she's just coming off of the best meet of her career at the Region Eight Regional Championships where she qualified for the Junior Olympic National Championship," said associate head coach Colleen Johnson.
She has built a strong resume in 2016, as Grantham is a Level 10 State Champion on vault and Junior Olympic National Championship qualifier. Additionally, she placed second as an all-arounder and on beam at the Region Eight Regional Championships, and finished third on floor, fourth on vault and fifth on bars.
"Drew is extremely powerful and can make an immediate impact on vault as well as on floor. She's also solid on beam and has proven to be a consistent beam worker under pressure. She certainly has potential to help us in all four events, and she's from Raleigh so she's familiar with the campus so it'll be great for her to have the support of her family and friends close by," Johnson added.
"It was like she was born to be an NC State gymnast and we're thrilled to have her join us. It's encouraged her to work even harder in her senior year and to stay healthy and get stronger. We're really proud of her and are excited for her future with us."
