
Moye Breaks 1,500m School Record on Opening Day of Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Megan Moye ran a speedy 4:15.67 in the 1,500m for a new school record and the Pack earned two ACC qualifying marks and four event wins on the opening day of the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center.

Distance:
Moye's mark is ranked fourth in the nation, second in the East Preliminary and first in the ACC. She finished the race just over 13 seconds ahead of the the runner up and was paced by true freshman Megan Vaughn – who ran unattached.

The new record beats Samantha George's record from 2015 by almost a second and is a nine-second PR for the Moseley, Va., native. It is Moye's third school record, as she broke the program's mile record this indoor season and was on the DMR team that broke the school record during the 2015 season.

Moye also added another event win and an 800m PR during the meet with a time of 2:05.98. Moye moved up the national standings from 43rd to 20th and the mark is ranked first in the ACC.

Also running in distance events, Alyssa Rudawsky finished fourth in the 1,500m and Bethany Neeley took fifth in both the 800m and 1,500m races.

The Wolfpack men swept the top-three spots in the 1,500m with Bakri Abushouk leading the way on his outdoor debut. Abushouk took the win in 3:50.69. Sebastian Hanson finished second in 3:50.90 and John Hagood took third in 3:51.74. NC State finished the event with five in the top-10 as Patrick Sheehan and Nick Link finished sixth and seventh, respectively.

Distance specialist Luis Vargas was also back in action after his top-10 national 5,000m mark at the Stanford Invitational. Vargas added a 10,000m time of 29:16.20 for the win. His time hits the ACC standard and ranked 10th in the East Preliminary and 30th in the nation. It was his first ever 10,000m track event.

Throws:
The throwers also provided highlights on the opening night, throwing to new PRs and strong event finishes. Lauren Evans added an ACC qualifying mark in the hammer throw with a big PR of 173'3". The mark is a 13' PR and was good for sixth place.

On the men's side, Joshua Davis cracked the 200' for the second meet in a row as he squared off with Charlotte's Stevan Veselinovic. Davis took second with a throw of 206'4", which is just off his lifetime best in the event.

David Rocker took sixth in the event and earned his second PR in as many weekends. Last weekend at ECU, Rocker earned an ACC qualifying mark in the hammer throw. Tonight, he increased that PR by 2' with a throw of 172'0".

Multis:
Grant Rivers started his first decathlon of the season and currently sits in fourth place with 2535 points after five events. Rivers earned outdoor personal bests in the high jump and shot put.

Rivers finished second in the shot put with a throw of 37'10.50" and third in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6'2.75".
