
No. 44 NC State Places Three on All-ACC Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the first time in school history, three NC State student athletes have earned a spot on the All-ACC men's tennis team in a single season. Simon Norenius, Thomas Weigel and Nick Horton are all first-time selections to all-conference team, which was announced by the conference office Thursday afternoon after a vote by the league's 13 head coaches.
All three are captains on the team, ranked in ITA singles polls and play a huge part in the team's success. The three have combined for 69 of the team's 93 wins this spring season.
Norenius is ranked No. 58 in the latest ITA poll and is 25-10 in singles play and 16-13 in doubles this season. Norenius has a team-high six wins over ranked opponents including two in the top-20. He has been the Pack's No. 1 singles player for most of the season.
Weigel made a big move up the lineup from the start of the year and now plays at the No. 2 singles position. The senior is ranked No. 112 in the ITA poll, and is having one of the best spring seasons in school history with 22 wins. He is just one win short from tying the school record for most wins in a spring season. This season he leads the team in singles and doubles play with a 22-8 singles record and an 18-11 doubles record.
Norenius and Weigel have also partnered together at the top of the doubles lineup and are ranked No. 57 in the country. The duo has defeated two ranked opponents and is 7-3 in the their last 10 matches.
No. 66 Nick Horton rounds out the All-ACC team with a 22-10 record this season. Horton has played exclusively between the top-three spots in the lineup and recently settled into the No. 3 singles position. He has two wins over ranked opponents, including a massive straight-set victory over then-ranked No. 6 Thai-Son Kwiatkowski of Virginia, which vaulted him up 29 spots in the polls.
