RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State's Abdul-Malik Abu announced Thursday he will return for his junior year, giving the men's basketball team a huge boost for the upcoming season.
As a sophomore, Abu started all 33 of the Pack's games and was tied for second on the team in scoring with 12.9 points per game. He was a force in the paint, leading the team with 8.8 rebounds per game and recording 14 double-doubles during the season.
The Boston native has played 69 career games for the Pack and was key member of the Wolfpack's 2014-15 squad that advanced to the Sweet 16, highlighted by defeating No. 1 seed Villanova.
Abu returns to join the newly formed frontcourt of five-star center Omer Yurtseven and fellow signee Darius Hicks, along with returnee Lennard Freeman.
Abu was able to test the waters to receive an evaluation and workout with teams – a new process that gave players until May 25th to return to school.
