RALEIGH, N.C. – Just weeks after breaking the sub four-minute mile for the first time, Graham Crawford will attempt to accomplish the feat again this Friday night at the Sir Walter Miler on the Meredith College Track.
Â
In addition to bringing in some of the country's best runners to compete, the Sir Walter Miler will also serve as the USATF NC Mile Championship and has a $5,000 purse. Additionally, breaking the outdoor NC mile records by Ken Popejoy (3:57.3) and Steph Garcia (4:28.84) will fetch another $250.
Â
This year's field promises to be the best group of athletes ever assembled for the Sir Walter Miler. Seven men and six women in the elite races were finalists in their respective events at the 2016 USATF Olympic Trials.
Â
Crawford, who was a semifinalist in the 1,500m at the Trials, is having a stellar summer season. The Burlington, N.C., native ran lifetime bests in both the mile and the 1,500m this summer.
Â
He earned his 1,500m Olympic Trials qualifying mark and lifetime best at the Princeton Qualifier, running 3:37.08. After finishing 15th overall at the Trials, Crawford won the Atlanta Dream Mile by more than two seconds and cracked the four-minute mile barrier for the first time, running 3:58.45.
Â
In addition to Crawford's entry in the elite race, Wolfpack alumni Andy Cozzarelli and Olivia Enright will participate in the Raleigh vs. Durham Challenge, which will feature cross country-style scoring.
