RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State Women's Tennis head coach Simon Earnshaw announced Monday that Helene Grimm has signed a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Wolfpack. Grimm will be enrolling in January 2018 and is eligible to compete in the spring.
"Despite getting going a little late in the recruiting cycle it didn't take David and I long to realize that Helene would be a great fit for our program," said Earnshaw. "Her game has been making exceptional progress as of late and her appetite for information especially during her visit really struck me as being a huge positive. I strongly believe that everyone who comes into contact with Helene will be better for her presence and this addition to the program adds strength that we haven't had the previous few years. We are all very excited to welcome her to the Wolfpack family"

Bio
Grimm hails from Buchholz in der Nordheide, Germany, and is the daughter of Franziska and Knud Grimm. She has two siblings, Veit and Nora. Outside of tennis she enjoys spending time with her friends and the family pets, as well as traveling and cooking. Grimm graduated from high school this past summer and has a strong interest in mathematics.
Grimm has seen plenty of competition through the age groups and in Women's Open competition in Germany. During junior competition, she was ranked as high as No. 9 nationally in Germany, reaching the quarterfinals of the German Junior National Championships in 2013 and winning the German Nike junior Tour that same year. More recently, Grimm advanced to the final in both singles and doubles at the 2017 North German Championships, a run which saw her knock-off top ranked German Juniors Shaline Pipa and Angelina Wirges. Currently she is climbing the German National Women's Rankings and sits at a career high of No. 72 through September.
Why She Chose NC State
"I liked how well structured everything was and the exceptional level offered both in academics and tennis," she said. "The team had such a strong focus and direction which really appealed to me. It was clear during my visit that the culture for athletics, resources and support for all the teams fit exactly what I was looking for."
