
Pack Falls to Heels

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team couldn't overcome a strong second half run from No. 10 UNC-Chapel Hill, dropping a 97-73 decision at PNC Arena on Wednesday night.
The Wolfpack fell to 14-13 overall and 3-11 in ACC play.
The Tar Heels jumped out to a to a 27-10 lead; however, NC State started to claw its way back into the game as the Wolfpack fed off of the sold out crowd's energy.
NC State cut UNC-CH's lead down to as little as five, 36-31, but a late Tar Heel run stretched the deficit to 51-37 entering the intermission.
Dennis Smith Jr. scored 17 first half points and passed J.J. Hickson into fourth place on NC State's leaderboard for field goals made in a season as a freshman with 164.
The second half was highlighted by an emphatic putback dunk from Abdul-Malik Abu that brought the crowd to its feet.
Smith Jr. led the Wolfpack with 27 points. Maverick Rowan scored 12 and Abu chipped in 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
NC State is back in action on Saturday at 12 p.m. as the Wolfpack host Notre Dame at PNC Arena. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
