Men's Swimming and Diving Takes Lead at #ACCMSD

ATLANTA--The NC State men's swimming and diving team added four more wins to its ACC Championship showing on Tuesday night, winning the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay.Â
In total, the team broke two conference records, two meet records and two school records, as well as earned four NCAA "A" cuts and placed nine on the All-ACC team.Â
After two days of competition, NC State has moved into the lead with 471 points and has won every swimming event contested. Louisville currently sits in second with 402.5 points and Virginia Tech rounds out the top three with 384 points.Â
Wolfpack Relays
For the fourth year straight, NC State took the title in 200 free relay. The squad of Ryan Held, Justin Ress, Joe Bonk and Andreas Schiellerup posted a time of 1:16.27, marking the third-fastest time in the country this year.Â

Freestyle
In the first individual event of the night, Anton Ipsen won his third-straight 500 free title, finishing in 4:11.92 breaking his previous school record. The three-peat marks the first in program history since Cullen Jones' 50 free three-peat in 2004-05-06. Ipsen's time places him fourth in the country so far this season.Â

Adam Linker also earned a podium finish in the event, placing third with a time of 4:13.93, marking the second-fastest time in program history. In the "B" final, Daniel Erlenmeyer stopped the clock in 4:20.83 to take 14th place. Matt O'Donnell rounded out the distance squad's showing with a 23rd place finish with a time of 4:26.08.
In the sprint freestyle, Held defended his 50 free title, earning his second-straight win in the event. His time of 18.68 broke the conference, meet and school records, and marks the second-fastest time in the country this season.Â

Schiellerup also finished among the top eight, taking seventh in 19.45. Joe Bonk (19.57) and Scott Johnson (19.66) finished 10th and 11th, respectively, while Mark McGlaughlin earned a 24th place, finishing in 20.33.Â
Individual Medley
In the 200 IM, NC State placed three in the top-eight of competition. Andreas Vazaios led the crew, winning the event in 1:41.25 to break the conference, meet and school records along the way. His time also stands as the fastest time in the country this year and is the program's first win in the event since 1985.Â
Soeren Dahl took third place in the event, touching the wall in 1:42.26 while Ress took fourth place with a time of 1:43.44. Hennessey Stuart finished 12th in 1:44.89 and Derek Hren finished 20th in 1:46.37.Â
Up Next:
The Wolfpack will continue competition at the men's ACC championships on Wednesday. Prelims will begin with the 400 IM, followed by the 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke.
