
Simmons Sprints to School Record, Runners Hit National Marks at Camel City

Paisley Simmons broke the 11-year old indoor 200m school record at the VT Elite and several of the Pack's distance runners hit national times at the Camel City Elite on Saturday afternoon to wrap up the NC State track and field team's weekend.

NC State now has six athletes in national-qualifying position and 15 marks in the top-five of the ACC.

Camel City:
Rachel Koon opened the meet for the Pack with a speedy 9:09.99 3,000m. The time ranks fifth in school history. The conversion from a flat to banked track brings Koon's time to 9:05.32 which is ranked third in the NCAA and first in the ACC. The race was a 23-second PR for Koon, who was the second collegiate finisher in a race crowded with elite talent.

In the men's race, Sam Parsons finished as the fourth collegiate runner and eighth overall with a 13-second PR of 8:03.98, which ranks 13th in the school history. His converted time of 7:58.42 brings him to 13th in the NCAA and third in the ACC.

Ryen Frazier wrapped up the meet for the Pack in the women's mile with the 10th-fastest time in school history of 4:46.46. Her converted time of 4:43.66 is ranked fifth in school history and 41st in the NCAA.

Sprints:
Simmons moved from third to first in the indoor 200m dash standings, dipping under the 23-second barrier for the first time on an indoor track. She took second overall in the race and is ranked 34th in the NCAA and fourth in the ACC with the time.

Gabriele Cunningham won the 200m open race with a personal best in 24.33.

In the men's 200m dash, Nyheim Hines made his event debut, running 21.92 to win the open race. In the invitational, Shannon Patterson and Dylan Peebles ran 21.84 and 21.96 to finish third and fourth, respectively.

Jumps:
Javonne Antoine led the Wolfpack women in the triple jump, finishing fourth overall with a mark of 40'7.00". Amara Bell set an indoor personal best in the event, jumping 39'8.00" to finish seventh overall.

The men's high jumpers both finished top-five as Christopher Garrick cleared 6'9.75" for third and JaTory "JT" Reid jumped 6'6.00" for fifth.

Throws:
In the women's shot put, Lauren Evans and Alyssa Dunn both set season bests and moved into the top-10 of the ACC standings. Evans took fifth in the event with a throw of 49'9.25", while Dunn finished seventh with a heave of 46'8.25".

NC State will be back in action next weekend, as the squad will split up to compete at the Iowa State Classic, the Tiger Paw Invite and the Tyson Invite.
