
#WrestleSTL: Three from @PackWrestle go for All-American Honors Friday Night

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The NC State wrestling team will be attempting to tie a school record tonight, as three members of the Wolfpack will be wrestling for All-American honors in the night session at the 2017 NCAA Championships.

Last year, the Pack had three earn podium placements, and will be looking to duplicate the feat this year with Sean Fausz (125 pounds), Kevin Jack (141) and Michael Macchiavello (184). Action resumes at 8 p.m. (ET) and will be televised by ESPN and streamed on ESPN3.

Quarterfinals Recap
R-So. Sean Fausz fell in the quarterfinals in the Pack's first bout of the day, but will come back tonight and a win will earn him All-American honors. Fausz fell to #4 seed Darian Cruz of Lehigh 5-2, after starting the NCAAs with a pin and an upset of the #5 seed yesterday. Cruz scored the lone takedown of the first period and added a second in the second period to go up 4-0. Fausz scored a pair of escapes, but Cruz tacked on the ride time point for the 5-2 decision.

Jr. Kevin Jack got upset in the quarterfinals round, falling to #10 seed Bryce Meredith of Wyoming 6-5. Meredith struck first with a takedown in the first, and a Jack escape had it 2-1 after one. Jack opened the second with a reversal and after a Meredith escape it was 3-3 to start the third. Meredith started the third with an escape, and his second takedown pushed the score to 6-3 late. Jack scored another reversal, but it would be the last points of the match.

R-Jr. Michael Macchiavello made quick work of his first bout, picking up an 11-3 major decision over Dylan Gabel of Northern Colorado. Macchiavello controlled the first period, with three takedowns and built a 6-2 lead.

Macchiavello made it two in a row on Friday, and advanced to the Blood Round, with a 2-1 win over Navy's Michael Coleman. After a scoreless first, both wrestlers got an escape to start the second and third periods to tie it up 1-1. With 30 seconds left in the bout, Coleman was hit with his second stalling call and Macchiavello got the winning point.

R-So. Jamal Morris started by picking up his second straight win, after he took out Cam Sykora of North Dakota State 6-4. Morris scored a takedown in the first and turned it into a two-point near fall to take the lead for good 4-1 in the first.

Morris was knocked out of the tournament with a 7-3 loss to #9 seed Scotty Parker of Lehigh. After a scoreless first, Parker scored a takedown and then a two-point near fall in the second to grab the lead. Morris has gone 2-2 at each of the last two NCAA Championships.

R-Jr. Brian Hamann was knocked out of the tournament after a 7-2 loss to #13 seed Brandon Womack of Cornell. R-Sr. Mike Kosoy's Wolfpack career came to an end with a 4-3 OT loss to Maryland's Youssif Hemida.
