
Wolfpack Women Earn Highest Finish in Program History at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS—The NC State women's swimming and diving team earned a seventh place finish at the 2017 NCAA Championships on Saturday, marking its highest finish in program history.
After four days of competition, the team tallied 194 points, collected 25 All-America honors, broke five school records and two conference records.
The ladies of Stanford won the meet with 526.5 points, California finished as runner-up with 366 points and Texas A&M took third place with 292.5 points.
On the final night of competition, Hannah Moore, Alexia Zevnik, Kayla Brumbaum and the 400 free relay team finished in the top eight of their respective events to earn first team All-America honors. Additionally, Courtney Caldwell finished top-16 in her event to garner honorable mention All-America honors.

Wolfpack Relays
NC State took fifth in the 400 free relay as the team of Zevnik, Ky-Lee Perry, Lotta Nevalainen and Caldwell finished in 3:10.31 to tie the school and conference record.
Backstroke
Zevnik had a blistering performance in the 200 backstroke, earning runner-up in the event. Her time of 1:49.09 breaks the conference and school records as well as stands as the sixth-fastest time in history. The swim earned the senior her 10th individual All-America honors of her career.
Breaststroke
Brumbaum earned her second individual All-America honor of her career as she finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke. Her time of 2:05.55 smashed her previous school record in the event and stands as the second-fastest time in conference history. In total, the senior collected seven All-America honors throughout her career including relay swims.
Freestyle
In the distance freestyle, Hannah Moore tabbed the fifth All-America honor of her career with a podium finish in the 1,650 free. The sophomore swam a time of 15:52.75 to take fifth overall. Rachel Muller also competed in the event and earned a 21st-place finish, touching in 16:05.21.
Sprinters Caldwell, Nevalainen and Perry represented the Wolfpack in the 100 free event. Caldwell earned her first individual honorable mention All-America honor, taking 13th in the overall standings with a time of 47.80. Her time from the morning session, 47.75, stands as the second fastest time in program history.
Perry finished in 24th with a time of 48.37 and Nevalainen place 26th stopping the clock in 48.42.

The men's swimming and diving team will now have its chance to compete at the NCAA Championships. NC State will travel with a squad of 14 and will compete in 12 different individual swimming events, one diving event and all five relays. The meet will also be held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind., and will run March 22-25.
