RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State track and field program is preparing to host one of the biggest track meets on the East Coast with the 2017 edition of the Raleigh Relays. The meet will run all day Friday and Saturday, starting at 9:45 a.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday.
NC State welcomes approximately 2,500 individual and relay entries from 100 NCAA programs, as well as professional athletes and high school competitors for the meet.
An Early Mark:
Whether athletes are searching for conference, regional or national marks, the Raleigh Relays serves as one of the best early opportunities to set the mark. Last season, 55 times and marks ranked in the top 50 of the NCAA East Preliminary standings, which helped athletes qualify for the first round of the NCAA D1 Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Athletes from D-II and D-III schools also used the meet to qualify for the postseason of their respective NCAA Championships.
The times were also nationally competitive, as 14 marks concluded the year ranked in the top 50 of the national lists.
NC State Entries:
The Wolfpack will have a full squad competing at the meet, which marks the first meet of the season for many athletes on the team. The team will look to defend its home track in a meet that has consistently served Wolfpack athletes well.
Check out the start lists and performance lists for a full breakdown of the Pack's entries.
Wolfpack Alumni In Action:
NC State will welcome back a number of notable alumni to compete this weekend. Jonathan Addison will compete in the long jump, and Kris Kornegay-Gober will jump in the high jump. On the track, Alexis Perry will lineup for the 100m hurdles as the top seed.
The team will have several of its notable distance alumni in action as well. NJNYTC member Graham Crawford will line up in the top section of the 1,500m, and Meron Simon of Hudson will run in the 5,000m. On the women's side, Oiselle athlete Andie Cozzarelli will compete in the 10,000m, Zap Fitness' Joanna Thompson will run in the 5,000m and NJNYTC member Kenyetta Iyevebele will run in the quick section of the 1,500m.
Last Time Out:
NC State is off to a hot start this outdoor season. The team won nine events to open the season at the Carolina Relays last weekend.
