RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State track and field team is set for the Virginia Challenge this weekend. The team will send a select group to compete across all events in a meet that has historically provided the Pack with postseason qualifying marks.
Â
What To Watch For:
Lauren Evans will kick off the meet for the Pack with the women's hammer throw Friday morning, as she looks to defend her two-week unbeaten run in the event, and Joshua Davis will be back in action in the men's hammer throw invitational. Evans will also compete in the shot put along with Alyssa Dunn.
Â
Kimani "KC" Hoffman will be back in action with the triple jump and long jump for the men and the Pack's women's jumpers will compete in both events. Vertical jumpers, Christopher Garrick, JaTory "JT" Reid and Margaret Edwards will represent the Pack in the high jump. Both Garrick and Reid enter the meet after setting season bests at last weekend's Gamecock Invitational.
Â
Grant Rivers is poised to make his season debut in the decathlon after competing in a variety of events to open his season. Rivers took fifth in last season's decathlon at the Virginia Challenge with 6,218 points.
Â
A host of Wolfpack sprinters will be back in action, competing in the 100m, 200m, 400m, and relay races. NC State's men's 4x100 will look improve on its time. Gabriele Cunningham will triple in the 100m, 200m and 100m hurdles, and Cravont Charleston will lineup in the 100m, 200m and 4x100. Nyheim Hines will also continue his season with the 100m and 4x100.
Â
In mid-distance events, Adbur-Rahmaan Kelly will once again chase the 40-year old 800m school record. Kelly has shaved nearly five seconds off his 800m time since the season opener and is less than a second from the record.
Â
In the 1,500m, NC State will line up 10 runners between the men's and women's races. School-record holder, Megan Moye will make her 1,500m season debut in section one and Samantha George, Ryen Frazier and Elly Henes will run in section two.
Â
After running solid 10,000m races earlier in the season, Erika Kemp, Sam Parsons and Elijah Moskowitz will lineup in the 5,000m to headline the distance events. Rachel Koon and Beth Taye will make their season debuts in the event and Ben Barrett, Aubrey Myjer and Patrick Sheehan are also slated to run in the 5,000m.
Â
Myjer, Aaron Thomas, Rachel Bartolomeo and Bethany Neeley will lineup in the steeplechase to round out the Pack's distance entries for the big weekend.
Â
Last Time Out:
Lauren Evans headlined the Pack's previous weekend, setting the school record in the hammer throw, while Wolfpack athletes combined to set numerous season and personal bests at the Gamecock Invite. The distance runners competed in the 800m and 1,500m races at the Charlotte Invitational. Kemp headlined the group and won the 1,500m, which eventually lead to ACC Performer of the Week honors for the Mount Holly, N.J., native.
